A Classic Belgian Road Bike from the Merckx Golden Era

Offered here is an Eddy Merckx Strada Classic, dating to 1986, built on a handmade Columbus steel frame crafted in Belgium. This model represents the period when Eddy Merckx Cycles expanded its lineup, offering riders race-inspired machines that combined European craftsmanship with modern component compatibility.

This bicycle is part of an exceptional 38-bike vintage and collectible collection, all owned by the same rider. With so many bicycles in rotation, each has been ridden very little and carefully preserved.

Eddy Merckx Cycles & Early Design Legacy

After retiring from professional competition, Eddy Merckx set out to create bicycles worthy of his name and racing legacy. To achieve this, he enlisted Ugo De Rosa, one of the most respected framebuilders of all time.

Ugo De Rosa played a key role in designing the earliest Eddy Merckx frames and helping establish production standards during the brand’s formative years. By 1986, the Eddy Merckx lineup had matured, offering multiple models built with race-proven geometry, premium Columbus tubing, and handbuilt precision.

The Strada Classic is a perfect expression of that era—elegant, fast, and unmistakably Belgian in character.
